Appearance Approval Report (AAR)

The Appearance Approval Report (AAR) is a part of PPAP and a pre-condition for signing of the Part Submission Warrant (PSW). An introduction to the AAR process is given in the “AAR education” file.

The procedure for AAR is described in STD4246, Scania Appearance Approval Procedure.

To reach an approval, parts shall be evaluated and approved by the Scania AAR-team. The AAR-team will summarise each evaluation in a report that is stored in a web based AAR Portal – found by clicking on the “Start Application” button above on the right.

If you don’t have access, contact your local supplier admin to request the role “AAR_Suppliers” in the IGA system. (User Management & Administrator Guidelines).

When an evaluation is performed, you will receive a mail with a link to the report. When the final AAR is approved, you as a supplier shall upload a PDF of the report (or if preferred by the SQA – a link to the report in the AAR Portal) to the e-PPAP system. (See file “AAR submission for ePPAP”).

When submitting parts for Final AAR (FV), you as a supplier send a mail to aar.inbox@scania.com with measurement reports (dimension and possible colour/gloss measurements) and any other relevant information. By sending parts, you state that you consider the parts to be ready for PPAP. No signature or official document is needed.

Note: Pictures of new development parts is confidential information and shall not be sent via email! In these cases Filedrop or specific Teams folders agreed between you and Scania shall be used.

When parts are sent in pallet, the pallet must be marked with a separate AAR pallet flag. This you can download from the list on the right or from the AAR Portal. Ensure you use the label corresponding to the agreed Scania address.

The position and affixing method of the flag shall be according to STD4172-4 (accessible via Applications > Scania Standards).

Appearance masters

A system with appearance masters (likare) is used when developing, manufacturing and assessing products with requirements for colour, texture and gloss.

Appearance masters are physical references (plaques) that are sent out to you as a supplier in the beginning of a project, to be used as references when developing the colour, texture and gloss of a part, and then later as references for verification (by you and by Scania). If in need of an appearance master, talk to your Scania purchasing contact.

For more information regarding appearance masters, see STD 4102.

Appearance masters shall be handled with care – Always use cotton gloves! To get a short overview how to handle and measure an appearance master – watch the Movie!
